A few years ago, a friend reached out with a question:  Her daughter was studying cyber-security and software development at a university, and she wanted to know my take on Information Security as a career field.   So I sat down and wrote up the following summary.   I think it's largely still accurate, and I've been asked for it again, so I figured I should just post it somewhere I can link to it.  We went to Yucatan for a week!  I've never been to the region before, so this was quite a treat.  Merida is the largest city on the Yucatan peninsula, and both the city itself and the state of Yucatan are rich in cultural and geological history. Just off the north coast of Yucatan is the site of the (buried) Chicxulub impact crater  - which is the impact that killed off the dinosaurs (and most of the other above-ground life on the planet) and changed the course of life on Earth completely.  The impact also created a massive underground hydrothermal system and hundreds of cenotes across the peninsula.  Yucatan is also rich in Myan history, and marked with the remains / ruins of the former Myan civilization.  An estimated 30% of the people in Yucatan still speak Myan, and the influence is quite prevalent in the names of places / features, the language, and the cuisine.  It was an amazing and educational trip.  We enjoyed exploring the city of...
