BACKGROUND:
I have a Compaq Evo N610c notebook. The ACPI BIOS on the Compaq Evo line
is not very well supported under Linux. When the Compaq Evo notebook is
running on battery power it will blank the screen after a period of
inactivity. Once this happens, no event can bring the keyboard, mouse, or
screen back to life. You are forced to hard-power-cycle the notebook and
reboot.
To prevent this I wrote this little utility. It sends an ioctl to the keyboard interface to pulse the Scroll Lock light on and off. Since toggling the Scroll Lock light triggers a keyboard interrupt, the Compaq Evo sees it as "activity" and resets its inactivity timer. Therefore, the machine never goes into the broken power-save state.

It's FREE! Really. It's a nasty hack anyway, so feel free to
use it, modify it, give it away, or whatever.
