I have posted the schematics for the prototype, and will post the parts list, PIC software, and construction notes this weekend. Click on PLANS above.

PocketDial is designed to offer a compact, inexpensive solution to using a full-blown PC for telephone modem auditing. It is small enough to be deployed anywhere, without need for a cumbersome PC & modem or expensive laptop. It is also inexpensive, reducing the cost of auditing and risk of theft.

Interfacing with PocketDial is easy. The integrated RS232 interface communicates with any standard PC, Laptop, or terminal at 9600 Baud. The embedded interface is menu driven, and can optionally be protected by a password. For high risk environments, there is also a feature to erase the EEPROM contents if an incorrect password is entered more than 5 times.

A status LED on PocketDial informs the user of its current status. PocketDial checks for dial tone before dialing each number, to avoid missing numbers. Once a modem carrier is detected, PocketDial notes the number and moves on. No attempt is made to actually communicate with a remote system.

PocketDial can be constructed with or without the integrated speaker. On units with the speaker installed, it can be disabled by means of a switch mounted on the unit.
